My partner has been sent to prison. Am I entitled to any financial support?
PDFPrisoner’s Wives Allowance and Deserted Wives Allowance has been discontinued and have now become the One Parent Family Payment. Mothers and fathers can apply for this payment and must have at least one dependant child to qualify.
If you are renting you may be entitled to rent allowance which enables you to work part-time or if you have been on rent allowance for at least 18 months you may be eligible for RAS ( rent allowance supplement) which enables you to work part-time or full-time.
If you are planning on taking up employment you may be eligible for job seekers allowance. There are other types of social welfare payments such as family income supplement. This payment is targeted at low income families . You must work at least 19 hours per week and have at least on dependent child to qualify.
