How do I arrange to visit my family member/friend in prison?
PDFThe prisoner will nominate six people they wish to keep in touch with. The majority of prisons have a booking line in which a family member or friend can ring and make an appointment. Some prisons do not have a booking line as yet but it will be coming into operation in the near future. If the prison you are visiting does not require making an appointment you should ring the general office to let them know that you intend going up to visit.
It is best to arrive about 15 minutes early and be sure to bring identification with you as you may be refused access. On arriving at the prison give your name and relationship to the prisoner. If your name does not appear on the prisoner’s visitor card you will be refused access.
