Remand prisoners
A remand prisoner is a person who is awaiting his/her trial, has not yet been convicted of a criminal offence and has not yet been released on bail. Remand prisoners are held in a remand prison. Cloverhill prison is the only remand prison in the republic of Ireland. Remand prisoners are entitled to one 15 minute visit per day.
Sentenced prisoners
Sentenced prisoners are persons who have been tried and found guilty of a criminal offence and have begun serving their sentence. Sentenced prisoners are entitled to one 30 minute visit per week.
